The Resources of Education and Learning within the Area of CRSPG - SUT

The Center for Plant Genetic Conservation Project Under the Royal Initiative at Suranaree University of Technology (CRSPG-SUT) warmly welcomed Taiwanese youth and exchange students participating in the Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative. The program provides participants with opportunities to gain professional experience and engage in hands-on learning in plant genetic resource conservation and sustainable utilization in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Week 1: Orientation, Community Engagement, and Cultural Immersion

During the first week, participants took part in a series of activities designed to connect academic learning, biodiversity conservation, local communities, and Thai culture. The activities focused on three key areas:

1. Academic and Institutional Orientation

Participants were introduced to the missions and activities of CRSPG-SUT under the framework of the Royal Project Plant Genetic Conservation Initiative (RSPG). They also explored SUT’s research and learning facilities, including research laboratories, the University Farm, and research-support infrastructure, helping them prepare for the practical learning activities ahead.

2. Community Engagement and Local Traditions

Participants experienced local traditions and community life by joining activities associated with the Lam Takhong Fish Eating Festival in Sikhio and Pak Chong districts. They also visited the Lamtakhong Research Station and participated in Thai–Chinese language and cultural exchange activities, strengthening communication skills and cross-cultural understanding.

3. Exploring Korat’s History and Culture

The participants paid their respects at the Thao Suranari (Ya Mo) Monument, visited the Petrified Wood Museum, and practiced everyday Thai communication while experiencing local community life at SaveOne Night Market. The week concluded with a reflection session, allowing participants to review their experiences and prepare for the upcoming hands-on activities.

The Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative represents an important step in strengthening SUT’s international engagement by providing Taiwanese youth with practical learning experiences in biodiversity and plant genetic resource conservation, while also fostering meaningful cultural exchange and mutual understanding between young people from Thailand and Taiwan.

In the coming week, participants will move into more hands-on activities, including plant genetic resource database management and laboratory-based work, further developing their practical skills and experience in plant genetic conservation.
